recycled leather scraps, recycled bike rim, leather crystallization

centered around sustainability and honest design, inspired by the concept of repurposing waste materials from businesses across Madrid. The journey began with sourcing discarded materials: a bike repair shop provided me with a rim destined for disposal, which became the frame of my project, and a leather shoe store contributed leather scraps.

I focused on pushing the boundaries of leather as my primary material, exploring its potential through experimental processes. Inspired by the idea of “colonizing” the leather, I turned to crystallization. Leveraging its organic properties, I chemically manipulated the leather to grow crystals directly on its surface, resulting in striking ornaments of crystallized leather scraps.

The lamp’s base, designed to tilt at a 45-degree angle, gives the illusion of floating. It is a durable concrete composite made from a mix of leather scraps, concrete, and sand, ensuring both strength and visual harmony.
RADIA is a projection lamp that disperses sparkling light reflections from the crystals across the room. It embodies a blend of functionality, sustainability, and aesthetics, showcasing the beauty of reimagined waste materials in design.
