what categorizes advancement as a race?
creating new technology, modernization, and industrialization?
what if that advancement leads to destruction?
would it be appropriate to categorize advancement as the destruction of our home?

the objective of  "NATURALEZA MUERTA"  was to examine and elucidate the concept of "headspace."
we defined headspace as the narrow space extending a few centimeters from the physical head.

the aim was to use artistic expression to highlight the adverse effects of industrialization on our planet and how it alters our understanding of the natural environment.

since the pre-industrial era, the Earth's temperature has increased by 1.1 degrees Celsius, with the 20 warmest years on record occurring since 1981. notably, the six hottest years have been since 2015. additionally, between 1990 and 2016, the world lost 1.3 million square kilometers of forest, reducing biodiversity and threatening the livelihoods of local communities.
air pollution is responsible for an estimated seven million premature deaths annually, continuing to damage wildlife ecosystems and human health. despite these impacts, society progresses and industrializes further. as human advancement continues, so does industrialization, accelerating the demand for new products and hastening the degradation of the natural environment.

"NATURALEZA MUERTA" serves as a tangible depiction through "headspace" of humanity's destructive trajectory. our headpiece demonstrates how maintaining the current pace of industrialization could ultimately lead to the irreversible loss of the natural world, which could become completely industrialized. the piece is crafted using a variety of weaving techniques to merge different materials. flowers in the design symbolize the natural world, while the wiring represents industrialization.

using traditional weaving techniques, we combined different metals to maintain a sense of balance, drawing inspiration from the Ying Yang theory.
this balance in the metals allows the sculptural mask to make a bold statement.
